Our Children

Our children are amazing, loving, accepting and kind. We want to share some of their stories so that you can understand just a little bit more about them. If you would like information about how you can write to or support our children please get in contact with us.

Shavani
orphans-saloni One of our latest family members, Shavani is the larger of twin baby girls that came to us at just under 4 weeks old. The 11th and 12th baby girls of a very poor family they were initally brought at just 1 day old but we did not want to accept them as they had both a mother and a father. Almost 4 weeks later when they were brought back to us again, we could see they were terribly sick and without immediate care would certainly die. Their father was very sick and their mother was just not able to feed them. Now both are healthy and happy!

Kamal
orphans-kamal After being abandoned by his family Kamal was brought to us from a town nearby at just 1 year old, now a member of the age group we call ‘Small Boys’ he is a champion! Spending his days playing marbles and cards with the other boys. Kamal’s favorite thing is his remote control car!

Peter
orphans-peter Peter is one of our special needs children. Brought to us by local police when he was abandoned, unable to speak and with permanent damage to his right leg and hand as a result of polio he was in a very difficult state. Peter has now become a much loved member of our family, at 15 years old he loves to sit with our carpenter while he works or just hang out with all the other boys watching cricket.

Ikindar
orphans-ikindar Left by his family in a town nearby Ikindar was brought to us 4 years ago at age 8. Active and full of life he enjoys cricket and football but most of all loves watching TV with all the other boys. A great attitude and sense of humor has made him one of the favorites of anyone who comes to visit. He is always ready to help out when there is work to be done and though he struggles a little in school he tries very hard.

Rina
orphans-rina Rina was brought to our mission just last year by her father and neighbor. Her mother died when she was 3 and her blind father who suffers from leprosy was not able to earn enough begging to care for her. When he brought her here it was very obvious to us that he loved her very much, his desire to see her protected, educated and safe was what lead him to us. Rina now attends our school and is a promising student.

Cynthia
orphans-cynthia This is Cynthia, she is nearly 3 and one of our younger nursery children. Brought to the mission by some locals after she was thrown in a storm drain by her mother she is now a much loved member of our family. When she came she was incredibly weak and we were concerned that she would never have proper motor skills Cynthia now loves dancing more than anything else. She is a true example of just how a little bit of love and care can save a life.

Dileep
orphans-dileep Meet Dileep, he is in grade 10 this year and is the closest thing we know to a living and breathing cartoon. Fun loving and filled with joy he spends more time making people laugh than anyone else. A talented cricket player and good student in school make Dileep just a great person to hang out with. We have high hopes for him and his future.

Rupa
orphans-kevin Rupa is one of our senior boys, now 20 years Rupa is studying year 12 with our children and also has taken a massive responsibility in our workshop. When he is not at school Rupa helps to keep our tractors, cars and motorcycles maintained; he has a passion for all things mechanical and is a skilled welder, electrician and plumer!

Saloni
orphans-saloni One of our latest family members, Saloni is the smaller of twin baby girls that came to us at just under 4 weeks old.

Kevin
orphans-kevin Kevin and his brother Raymond are an unstoppable force. If you let them get a hold of you they will not let go easily! After they were abandoned by their mother they were brought by neighbors to our mission. Both were incredibly weak and at 2 years old Kevin was not able to walk. Kevin started his first year at school this year and is doing great!

Amir
orphans-amir Amir’s start in our family was a very sad one. Effected by polio and with poor motor skills one of our staff members witnessed him being mistreated and beaten by men when he tried to get on a bus without paying. Unable to do anything at the time for him she returned to the mission and shared with us how heartbroken she was at the way he was treated. Just a few hours later Amir was brought by police from a town nearby, enquiries and searches were made for his parents but to no avail. He has now settled well into our family, loving to play or just hang out with anyone Amir is always smiling.

Kushbu
orphans-kushbu This is Kushbu, her name means ‘a sweet scent’ in Hindi. She is one of our older nursery children and loves nothing more than to play with dolls and run around in the nursery. Slightly quieter than most she often hides in the background at first but once she gets to know you she opens right up.

Anup
orphans-anup One of the oldest of our ‘Big Boys’ Anup is hard-working, intelligent and fun loving. One of our best students in school Anup is currently studying grade 12 and we hope that he will continue on from there. As with most of our boys Anup loves playing sport, particularly cricket and football and spends as much of his time doing just that.

Gail
orphans-gail Meet Gail, she is one of our oldest girls on the mission. Now 24 years old Gail has been here for over 22 years. Gail helps to manage and monitor much of the work here on the mission, particularly the care of the children, distribution of rations/supplies and shopping in the local markets. Her help over the last few years has been a huge assistance to the smooth running of this place.

Nancy
orphans-nancy Living on the mission since she was 4 months old Nancy is loved by everyone. Her kind nature and fun loving attitude has made her a lot of friends both here on the mission and outside. Nancy loves to help out our volunteers when they come and like so many of the girls is a huge fan of anything and everything Bollywood.

Petey
orphans-kevin Petey joined us here on the mission almost a year back when he was "orphaned" by his loving family who sadly had to move to America from India. Petey is a beautifully natured and well trained dog and has become the pet of all the children (our unofficial mascot). He loves to play games with everyone, even the smallest of children -we like to think of him as a member of our family.
