| New Laundry |
After over 30 years of use the old laundry was in need of replacing. Cracked floors, walls and rusty, faulty equiptment meant that it would actually be easier to change the entire location of the laundry. We decided to convert half of the sewing room into the new laundry and then turn the old laundry into an undercover clothes hanging area (for the monsoon). Thanks again to the help of our good friend Mr Des Wilmott (who has now been out here twice to volunteer) we were able to not only make the new laundry but also purchase a new industrial size washing machine, and electric/hand powered spin dryer as well as new tubs, stands and equipment. As an extra on top, a stereo was even installed so that the girls could listen to music while they washed clothes. New drainage was laid down, the laundry floor was raised and sloped, electrical systems were completley replaced, walls were plastered and painted to give a brighter feel to the room. Just outside the laundry we also decided to remove an old well that was unsafe and level out the courtyard. |
